Sail the North Channel of Georgian Bay (8 - 10 Days)

Day 1

Today you sail from Little Current to Baie Fine.  Just 12 nautical miles east of Little Current, Baie Fine is a must see stop along the way to Killarney.  Often referred to as a fiord, Baie Fine is a long narrow bay, flanked by the white quartzite mountains of the La Cloche range on either side.  At the end of the bay, you will find a narrow entrance into the Pool, a beautiful place to anchor for the night and spend some time exploring.  Hike the trails to Artists Lake or Topaz Lake, both within Killarney Provincial Park.

Day 2

Set your sights on Killarney today, a quaint fishing village along the north shore of Georgian Bay.  Once ashore, begin exploring.  Plan to spend some time canoeing, kayaking or hiking in Killarney Provincial Park the jewel of the Ontario Parks.  Killarney Outfitters offers daytrips and half daytrips.  Be sure to stop by Herbert Fisheries Mr. Perch for their amazing whitefish.  You’ll find them in the red bus located directly on the dock.

Day 3

Today you make your way to Covered Portage Cove, another must stop anchorage on any north channel trip.  Well protected, and beautiful, this cove has a spectacular cliff at its entrance and sheltered waters.  Hike to the top of the hills for a magnificent view.

Day 4

Make your way back to Little Current today, in preparation for the second leg of your trip.  Little Current is a great place to replenish your supplies before hitting the water again tomorrow.

Day 5

Sail from Little Current to the Benjamin Islands today. Composed of Croker Island, North and South Benjamin Island and Fox Island; the pink granite of the Benjamin Islands stands in contrast to the white quartzite range popular in this area.  Declared a National Beauty Spot, South Benjamin Island is a popular anchorage for boaters.

Day 6

Set sail for Gore Bay today.  Another great place to stock up, Gore Bay has a sand beach and a boardwalk meandering from the dock to the south end of the bay.  You’ll find Gore Bay nestled between two splendid bluffs, with quaint tree lined streets perfect for a stroll to admire the elegant historic mansions.

Day 7

Make your way from Gore Bay to Kagawong today, passing by Clapperton Island on the way.  Tying up alongside the pier can leave you unprotected in a north wind, so you may want to check the forecast.  A limited number of slips are available protected behind the pier, but should be reserves by calling ahead.  Once in town, enjoy the walking trails to Bridal Veil Falls, one of Manitoulin Island’s must see attractions.
